Compare and Contrast: Yahoo and Google


     Ever since technology was created, Internet is one of the most important factors of the human life.  The Internet is very useful for social networking or finding out what’s going on around the world. When people want to find information, there are many search engines to choose from. But in the last or so, Yahoo and Google have made their way to the top.
    First, let’s go into the similarities between the two companies. Google is a public company of computer software, Internet search engine, and advertising technologies that was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The company headquarters is resided here, in California. Google strongly associates with simplicity, usefulness, search engine, maps, video sharing sites, a place to check your e-mail, and advertising.  In contrast, Yahoo is an American public corporation that provides Internet services worldwide and display advertising that was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo. Yahoo’s headquarters is also located in California. Yahoo also offers a search engine, e-mail, maps, video sharing, and social networking websites.
     But on the other hand, they both differ in many ways. Google’s wed search engine is the company’s most popular. For example, Google’s directory opens a dictionary to build the most useful tool for finding information, image search that shows more than one billion images available for viewing. Google maps are very powerful tools that can find business locations, contract information and driving directions. However, Yahoo’s search engine does best in searching for movies, finances, and travel. JP Morgan quoted that “Yahoo is the dominant search engine in the US market share for display advertising at 17%.”  Yahoo also shows the latest news and information on sports in more than twenty languages. It also has a variety of image search, maps, and products.
      Both Yahoo and Google are good search engines, but it depends on the user that uses them. The main similarities of two companies are both of them provided search engine and advertising business. There are many differences between two companies such as varieties of products and usefulness of their tools. Then, both of them have an advantage and disadvantage that depends on users and information of data.
